It's all Che's fault!

I may have to "bug out" of SC over the next few days. I'm told that evacuation is a real possibility along the coast. If the opportunity arises, and with a holiday weekend coming up, I'm outta here!

This is a Good Idea

At Dean's World , he is posing the Question - Who is the Anonymous Senator? - the one that is blocking Senate bill 2590, which makes the budget process transparent. The information about the AS(S), comes from Instapundit . Dean suggests that you contact your Senators, and ask - are you he/she? If so, stop it. If not, let me know. It will be interesting to see what the responses are.

Guard the Borders

Quick Update

The DSL has been in-and-out this weekend, so I'll make use of it while I can. Some things that have caught my attention: Heather McDonald has an interesting article on immigration in City Journal - Seeing Today's Immigrants Straight. If you're in the mood for a good laugh, try Bring it On! In excruciating detail, someone who calls himself "Windspike" writes, It strikes me that W was and is an accidental president: selected, but not elected. And before Nine Eleven, he didn’t have a platform upon which to stand. Post nine-eleven, his platform is firmly grounded on and predicated upon fear. But that indeed, is a shaky proposition because it has made him and us co-dependent upon the terrorists that supply that drug. Like all good drug dealers, Osama gave us the first dose free, and we have been paying for it ever since. Here’s a good illustration of what I mean. If we are winning the “war on terror,” why don’t the color levels go down as more of the bad guys are r...

DSL

Fortunately, I'm a reasonable person. When the tech answered, I didn't bite his head off. However, I ended up spending over 40 minutes waiting in on-hold hiatus. Somebody is going to pay for that. Somehow. Oh, BTW, my DSL won't be repaired before Monday evening. Or, as I was told, Embarq was "committed" to repairing it by then. When I pressed the rep as to the likelihood of the repair guys coming in the next few hours, before the Sunday shut-down (VERY few businesses in the Bible Belt work on Sunday), he just repeated his "committment". Be back on Monday evening. I hope.

*&^%$#$%^&*^%$#$%^&

My DSL is out, so I'm writing this post from a local coffee shop with Internet acces. I've been on hold with the ISP for 13 minutes the first time, until they cut me off. This time, I'm informed the wait will be 19 minutes !!!!! All of this on a cell phone. Yikes! You know the worst thing? Listening to the overly loud and peppy "hold" music, interspersed with bragging about their "fantastic" service. Oh, yeah. Is that poor slob who finally answers going to have to earn his/her paycheck? This is one of the reasons I love blogging. I can let my frustrations out, without throwing things or swearing. No guarantees, however. Don't know how long the mellow mood will last.

Aw, Fran, youse done did it again!

Francis W. Poretto - Eternity Road is either a VERY brave man - or terminally clueless. He wrote a post guaranteed to stir up the ire of many unsatisfied women. But, he is also right. Fran is posting about, among other things, Sex and the City (love that title, it should propel my hit count WAY up - anytime SEX, I mean, SEXXXX, is mentioned - or boobies - that's another great word for getting to the top of the search engines). Where was I? Oh, yeah, why women in America are so often unsatisfied and lonely. It's because they listen to the wrong people about men. Now, there's a few people on TV that I might listen to about men. Meredith Veiera, for example. She is married (to journalist Richard Cohen) and limited the travel she would do for work, due to family concerns (she has 3 children). Although we may differ on political issues, I respect that, when it comes to juggling multiple roles, she, at least, walks the walk. So, why the @#$%^&* is Oprah the Queen of all...

Guard the Borders

*** A podcast of this week's Blogburst is now available .*** By Heidi at Euphoric Reality There are only a few hours left to have some impact on the case of two Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who are being sentenced tomorrow for attempting to apprehend a drug smuggler who was fleeing across the border illegally. The charges against the Border Patrol agents were serious bodily injury; assault with a deadly weapon; discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence; and a civil rights violation. Compean and Ramos also were convicted of four counts and two counts, respectively, of obstruction of justice for not reporting that their weapons had been fired. The Texas jury acquitted both men of assault with intent to commit murder, but found them guilty on all other charges. The recommended sentencing is 20 years in prison . You can read the entire account of the case in this Daily Bulletin article written by Sara Carter , but there are a few thin...

Sanctuary?

Sanctuary offered by churches is an ancient tradition in the Christian community. From the Catholic Encyclopedia: A fugitive convicted of felony and taking the benefit of sanctuary was afforded protection from thirty to forty days, after which, subject to certain severe conditions, he had to "abjure the realm", that is leave the kingdom within a specified time and take an oath not to return without the king's leave. In other words, sanctuary was a temporary way for a fugitive to marshall any financial or other resources he might possess, then leave forever. It was intended to counter the overwhelming power of the state, and provide a merciful exit from the country. Cheaper and simpler than keeping the felon in prison, and, for those smart enough to learn from their mistakes, a fresh start. That's clearly not the idea of Elvira Arellano, who is hiding out from the ICE in a Chicago United Methodist church. Elvira is a four-time illegal, one time doing her boomerang ...

Lost Counter

After I changed to Blogger-beta, I noticed that I had lost my counter. I went to RightStats to get the code again, and discovered that I had forgotten my login. Rather than play back-and-forth games, I signed up with a new counter on another site - StatCounter . Works fine. UPDATE: I tried to post the above, and was alerted to a broken tag. The information provided by Blogger-beta was more helpful than Blogger ever was, pinpointing and highlighting the trouble. So, even though I've lost some stuff (my fault), the change appears to have been worthwhile.

Change is Good - I Think

I've been bored with the look of my blog for some time, now. When Blogger brought out the beta version - with Google - of their new software, I bit. It's pretty painless, but those of us who'd modified the standard template have to plan on recreating them. Still, it's not that tough. I was able to put back in the Memorial to the 9/11 victims. To me, that was VERY important. I dedcided to lose the Tags feature - I just didn't find it that useful.

Long-Delayed Post - Guard the Borders

The change by Blogger to - I don't quite know what to call it - Google-Blogger, Glogger, whatever - had limited my ability to post in the last week. So, today, I'm catching up on the Guard the Borders Blogburst. By Heidi at Euphoric Reality For a long time here at GTB, we have focused on the tsunami of humanity that flows over our southern border from Mexico. Mexicans, by far, are the largest group of illegals inside our borders, and their open agenda of Reconquista has place tax-funded groups like La Raza, MEChA, and LULAC under the microscope. We've also covered the alarming news of the number of Middle Easterners who take full advantage of our unguarded borders to infiltrate our country, paying coyotes tens of thousands of dollars to allow them to blend in with herds of illegals crossing the border. Once inside the country, they disperse and fade away into our society. Lately, focus has shifted from clandestine border crossings to blatant visa violations as the F...

New Heading

I've been thinking of a way to remember the most immediate reason for the War on Terror, the 9/11 victims. I've added a new header, just above mine. It's a script, designed to load in a random victim of 9/11, each time a page is reloaded. I found it on Danny Carlton - alias Jack Lewis . He's also been added to the blogroll - check him out. If you'd like to add the code to your blog or webpage, go to this post, and follow the instructions . It's dead-on easy (did I say DEAD-ON, apply to your blog, DEAD-ON, apply to your blog, DEAD-ON, apply to your blog). After 9/11, I'm going to work on a memorial to the OTHER victims - those Armed Services members who died, as well as the other victims worldwide. Be patient, it may take a little time to research and plan. Tags = Blogging

Yet Another Stupid Test

You Are Most Like George W. Bush So what if you're not exactly popular? You still rule the free world. And while you may be quite conservative now, you knew how to party back in the day! What Modern US President Are You Most Like? I can't help it - I find these things to be funny and surprisingly accurate. (Especially when the answer flatters me). Tags = Blogging

Fast Post

I'm 5 minutes away from a scheduled outage at Blogger, so I'll make this quick. I'm sorry about being late with the Guard the Borders blogburst. It's a great one, BTW (see below). School started this week, and I've been swamped. My husband is also in town, and we're enjoying a little time together. I hope to be back to normal in about another week. Without DH around, I'll have a lot of hours to fill. I'm currently catching up on the situation with airline flights. In one way, it's unbelievable. OTOH, I've been expecting this for some time. Naturally, I'm nervous about DH flying home. Pray for us (and the rest of the country). Tags = Blogging

Illegal Alien Stole 10 yr old girl’s identity By Toni at Bear Creek Ledger How would you like to find out your child's identity had been stolen? You of course probably wouldn't know until the child reached adulthood. Kern found out quite by accident when Hayley's application for the North Carolina Children's Health Insurance Program was initially rejected because her earned income was too high. Hayley is 10 years old. She doesn't have any earned income. Guess the Social Security Administration doesn't look at earned income for 10 year olds or 5 year olds for that matter. What she learned was that a man, an illegal immigrant in his 20s, had been working under Hayley's Social Security number for the past six years. [...] Rosario does not speak English. Through an interpreter, Knight learned that when Rosario came to the U.S. from Mexico at age 22, he was told he needed "work papers" to get a job. The working papers acquaintances provided was a Social...
I just saw this video, entitled "Pallywood" . It shows how the media has been, at best, gulled by propagandists. At worst, the media have been active participants in creating and disseminating outright lies. Warning: it takes a while to load. The video is 18 minutes long. I can't urge everyone strongly enough to watch it, and tell your friends. Send the link in an email to everyone on your list. I was directed to the site by Pajamas Media Oher videos you'll want to watch: Senator Clinton's harangue to Rumsfeld. Rummy's response. I'm getting real fond of that YouTube . They've got a wide collection of video, ranging from the dumb to the funny to the disgusting. But, they've also got some clips that the MSM don't want you to see. Tags = Media

Is It 1937 All Over Again?

Image
I'm finding it more than a little bewildering that the international community is so focused on the unintentional civilian loss in Lebanon, while totally ignoring the intentional targeting of Israeli civilians by Hezbollah. Then I remembered. Israelis are Jews. By definition, they are the essence of all that is despised and unholy. Without them, the world would be sunshiny and really, really peachy-keen. [cue song - "Everything is Beautiful"] Or, so the world would like us to think. Their reasoning: All people over the world have a right to their ancestral homeland - except the Jews. All people have the inherent right of self-defense - except the Jews. It is a true tragedy when a child is killed in a war - except when the child is Jewish. There, now, you should be informed and ready to take up the fight against the only REAL enemy of the people - the Jews. That's the real trouble with John Bolton - he holds the heretical belief that Israel is not the problem chi...

A New Low in Stupid

As I sit in my office area, surviving the heat with the help of 1 lone air conditioner (the rest of the house is closed off), I read this article in AlterNet , that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever read. The article "reasons" that the growth of conservatives is related to - are you ready for this? - air conditioning. An example of the twisted reasoning: The political system is wilting partly because its roots have become shallow. People are becoming less and less inclined to gather spontaneously in noncommercial places, and air-conditioning reinforces that social chill. A shady suburban street on a pleasant 85-degree summer evening can be as free of human life as it might be during a Christmas Eve ice storm. Keeping people indoors and comfortable reinforces a tight focus on the individual or nuclear family rather than a larger community, and that is part of what's crippling grassroots political action. Air-conditioning helps numb us to the prospect of ecologica...
