Singham is one of those tech multimillionaires. He uses his wealth to fund revolutions in the USA, including his wife's causes (Code Pink and others).

A Sri Lankan by heritage, Singham was born in the USA.

He is for "Human Rights" in America. Not for any kind of anti-government action in the Communist Paradise of Mainland China, where he lives. The repressive oligarchy that runs China is NOT to be criticized.

He is doing his work against America, and her values, with the eager assistance of one of our mortal enemies. This is NOT an organic manifestation of American protest, but a planned psyop by a foreign country.

By the Pricking of My Thumbs - Part II

I really wanted to put this issue to rest for a while, but the connections just keep popping up.

This is a full treatment of the corrupt and biased Holder DoJ. Please follow the links to other sites - you'll get a broader understanding of just how bad they really were.

I had a hard time not blowing my top when I read about Dobinsky, a lawyer who used her position as a party to confidential information - and whose job it was to make sure that it did not improperly get out and prejudice the jury pool - to use that access to smear the defendants and work to get them convicted.

But - that's Holder-town, Jake.

Every other Justice Department lawyer who blogged about their New Orleans case has been fired, except Dobinski.

This case, along with so many others, stinks of corrupt and unlawful actions. The DoJ needs to be reformed, from top to bottom. I have a suggestion for that:

• Get a squad of computer geeks in - vet them BEFORE they are hired, to prevent unwittingly putting a Leftist in a place to alter information.
• Go from office to office, taking the original computer hard drive and any flash memory from those offices. Leave a cloned hard drive behind. They can contact tech support to hook them up.
• Have them work in teams of 3, with all of their actions recorded. Make sure that the 3rd person records EVERYTHING that is done on video.
• Clone ALL computers in the building. For those computers that were in the possession of any employee, have them sign a paper that they have that computer, AND accompany them to get it.
• Have a forensics team examine the computers for evidence of illegal/unethical activities. Again, ALL proceedings will be on video.
• Inform all employees that want to get something off their chest about any illegal and/or unethical activities - including destruction of evidence of a crime or unethical action - that, IF they are truthful and provide evidence, they MAY escape prison time, if their involvement is not extensive, and is peripheral to the main actors. Only for the non-central players
• Actually follow through, by preparing criminal cases against those found to be central. Those with more peripheral connections, may POSSIBLY save their jobs and pensions, IF they come totally clean. Those who stonewall, prosecute.

Disengaging From Media

Am I a Luddite? Am I suggesting a move to Amish country (which is beautiful, although unbelievably pungent with animal smells)?

No.

I'm suggesting that we detach from media amusements. Jettison the cable, detach from watching the news (try reading the print edition online - it's faster, and you can skip the boring parts).

Although I do actually like Lebron James, I do not look to him to provide me with moral guidance. His comments about Trump are fair - both of them are entitled to their opinions, which are, for the most part, derived from their very different experiences and relationships.

I just don't like injecting political stances into a game. So, I've made a decision not to watch - not that I did much.

That Kneeling Thing - it started, I believe, because sitting was seen for what it was - blatant disrespect.

The Kneeling Thing is an attempt to use the religious-associated stance to deflect criticism. For that reason, I reject it - it's a hijacking of religious imagery for secular benefit.

Not acceptable. Unless you're her.

Not her.

I'm really hoping - praying - that MLB doesn't get all on the bandwagon of Signaling Virtue. I'd hate to have to turn off the tube on the Cleveland Indians.

Inconvenient Principles

I'm fine with people who hold an opinion on principle. One example is those who believe that ALL businesses must serve the public, even those they disagree with. If held sincerely, they would serve, not only LGBT+, but also Christians, Muslims, Atheists, and those holding firm for Traditional Marriage.

That doesn't often happen. What does happen is that these 'principled' people will fight for the rights of those they agree with, and conveniently ignore the rights of those whose opinions they oppose.

One such person, whose rights are being trampled - with impunity - is Trey Trainor. His case is detailed here.

IF you value 1st Amendment rights, you have to champion all who seek to use them - EVEN those with whom you disagree.

Or, something like that. It's just about all that keeps them from OD'ing on Xanax and Chardonnay.

An Oldie, But...

(Actually not that old - from 9/12/17, but - in Internet Dating, it's a lifetime).

Also, something that has driven me nuts for years. Leftists saying/writing something outrageous, then pretending that they were just kidding when confronted with it. But, not being able to handle even slightly 'triggering' words.

Also, a new way of looking at political divisions - not as simple as it seems. Go there, the explanation is worth it.

Managing Harvey

Some ideas for managing the mess of recovery - I'm thinking Triage, which uses the following categories:

First responders using START evaluate victims and assign them to one of the following four categories:

1. Immediate (red)
2. Delayed (yellow)
3. Walking wounded/minor (green)
4. Deceased/expectant (black)

Immediate 

This category is the one that gets immediate attention. In medical patients, it's the person who, without immediate assistance, would die.

For disaster victims, this would be business/hospitals/gas stations/restaurants/insurance agencies, etc., that provide vital resources, and whose facilities can be cleared out relatively quickly. Get those businesses back on their feet, and, they will not only provide services, relieving the rescue groups, but also provide employment and cash flow.

Local businesses should get the most help; the nationally-affiliated companies should get involved with their local businesses in need.

Delayed

Here I would group the bars/clothing stores/office supply stores, etc. - they are important, but the economy could survive without their quick resuscitation.

Walking Wounded

They are in need of help, but can provide most of it themselves. They can clean out their own business, contact the insurance companies, provide for their own equipment needs, security, etc. They might occasionally need a question answered, but can mostly function on their own.

Deceased/Expectant

Not gonna come back - pull the plug. They will need to work with their insurance company for a payout, but they are not going to re-build.

If any business is under-insured, that's their problem. Direct them to a lending source, and leave them alone.

That's the business side of things. But, individuals follow the same pattern.

Immediate

Here, the issue is focused on getting those individuals who have lost everything out of your hair.

You are NOT going to solve all their problems. You cannot restore them to where they were, without massive infusions of cash. For this group, they will continue to call upon your resources for years to come, if you let them.

Who are they?

1. The long-term unemployed. I'm going to separate those that are not disabled from the rest. If that person did not have a job before Harvey, but is not disabled, they should be offered a job in a clean-up crew for their keep in a shelter. No work, no shelter - and, I'm talking 8-12 hour days. Pay them for their work, but let them know - this is TEMPORARY work. It will pay for the shelter costs, and a little bit more, which they can save to get back on their feet. NOT a 'Living Wage" - it should make them uncomfortable enough to find other means to support themselves.
2. Women with kids - bring in child care workers, but get those women working. Other than those with under 6 month-old kids, EVERYBODY works (at least 1 adult per household - so, the more traditional families can have the father/husband be the worker). If they are not working at something else, they do child care, cleaning, cooking, etc. - 8 - 10 hours a day, just like the workers.
3. Give a one-time bonus payment, IF they get the hell out. Move to another city - locate in some other place where they can get back on their feet. No more than $5000. NOT to be repeated. NOT to be combined with other aid. Don't come back and don't let the door hit you.
4. It should not need to be stated, but NO money for illegal aliens. If the adults in the family are not legal, they need to go. If they have American citizens as their children, they may take them with them, and - as an incentive to go away - each American-born kid gets them $2000 cash. Just don't come back. Take their fingerprints, eyeprints, blood for DNA testing - if they are caught again, jail time. They will NOT be eligible for immigration later, even as the parent of an American citizen.

Once those people are gone, the problems are reduced. You can deal with those who have roots in the city, and have reasonable expectations of getting back on their feet, with a little help.

This is the Quietest Day for Me

It was the defining moment of my adult life. It was a sharp break between The Way I Thought It Was, and The Actual Reality.

Up to that point, I'd always been a Liberal, Democrat-Voting, Accept that the Left is ON THE "RIGHT" SIDE OF HISTORY kind of girl.

It really was a beautiful morning. I was quietly working in my classroom when my husband came in, tears in his eyes.

Then, he told me what had happened.

This blogger gets it - and expresses it so much better than I.

ALL attempts at biography get some things wrong. In part, this can be influenced by biases of the writer.

However, a more dominant impact is wielded by the fashionable cultural/social/political trends at the time. Biographies during the 50s tended to view subjects through an American lens - hence, Winston Churchill was analyzed via his connections to America - FDR, Jennie Churchill (his mother, an American), and other people in his life that might have influenced his life.

In the 60s, opposition to 'the Establishment' was the theme of several biographies, which played up those aspects of Jefferson's term that opposed a prior president's actions - The Alien Act, The Sedition Act - and downplayed those parts of his life that marked him as an Elitist, a slaveowner, and a traditionalist.

So, too, are the attempts to shoehorn Hamilton (an absolutely fascinating figure, literally a self-made man who came out of nowhere by sheer force of personality and intellect) into the current idea of a 'good person'.

People are more complex than that. Their motivations, beliefs, and actions may be, in part, explained by their heritage/ethnicity/culture.

But, not all. We are all capable of acting in unexpected ways, counter to what might be perceived to be our personal interests.

Views of the Proletariat

From England - what are African immigrants talking about? It's not what you might expect.

Hurricane Irma - barring a miracle, this will affect us in several possible ways. I would prefer these solutions:

• Puerto Rico, the Florida Keys, the Gulf, or the Carolinas get hit - this would require direct action by FEMA. Those places are our responsibility. Coming on top of Harvey, this will stress the emergency response systems.
• Other Caribbean islands - let the big disaster organizations assist with this. IF the CDC is not too busy, cut loose some of the staff to work with the local response forces. Otherwise, no action.
• Cuba - other than praying for the dictators and their helpers to die, do nothing. Do not accept escapees or refugees under any circumstances (other than enemies of that state).

IF we have ships in the area, they MIGHT provide some medical/logistical help, if they are near and able.

In the event of landfall in the Carolinas, I'm likely to be VERY wet for a few days. I've experienced hurricanes hitting areas nearby, and I've learned that the water continues dumping along the path even after it loses hurricane velocity. My first year in SC was 2005 (you remember that year, don't you?), and my whole yard looked like a swamp for ages.

There is a Simple Answer to the Violence

Refuse to let any 'antifa protestor' participate unless they take off the masks.

Masked people don't belong at potentially violent public meetings - on either side.

Funnily enough, it's the KKK that has taken off the mask. Few of them appear in public with their cloaking hoods.

And, they've taken the heat for that - losing jobs, alienating family, letting themselves in for years/decades of retaliation for their public expression of opinion.

Not so the 'Antifa'. They wear hoods masking their identity. The police let them into public venues, where they have an obligation to vet those participants.

I"m going to make a suggestion. Pink Spray paint - or Lime Green. Or any other color. Pick ONE color, and use it to mark the clothing of the masked 'Antifa' thugs.

When one of them harasses/hits/uses a weapon against an 'enemy', bring out the spray. Mark them, and make it harder for them to escape the rightful arrests, lawsuits, and other responses that should follow their cowardly actions.

How about agreeing on Pink?

Bringing Down the 1st Amendment

It's not the first time it's been tried.

It won't be the last.

However, it's staggering just how many people want to limit First Amendment Rights to those speeches and writings that agree with theirs.

It's a Euro idea, that SOME opinions or writings are just unacceptable, and MUST be censored. It didn't start with the Nazi party, as is often suggested. Long before Hitler, European countries were censoring Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, Atheists, Feminists, those who opposed the official state church, those who were pro-Democracy, etc.

But, the Leftists and their allies, the Progressives, have gathered energy, used their positions to pressure companies to cancel their provided services to organizations - or individuals - that they deem too controversial. Or Non-Lefitst. Or "Homophobic" or "Anti-Woman/LGBTQ-whatever/Black/Minority".

Without proof. Except their VERY strong Say-So.

The same people who insisted that churches had to tolerate crude, vulgar, hateful expressions right outside - and, sometimes, inside - their places of worship have suddenly developed the vapors at the IDEA that they should have to tolerate such nonsense, themselves.

Funny how those same women who will INSIST that they be treated as though they are BIG, BRAVE WOMYN also insist that we moderate our speech, because - you know - they just can't BEAR the sound of all that AWFUL "HATE"!

And, it's not just them insisting that we, who disagree with them, refrain from speaking in their presence.

They're also mobilizing their considerable forces to pressure OTHERS from providing a platform. Or links. Or, not condemning us strongly enough. Or refusing to go along with their efforts to make those they dislike become a un-person.

Why Tearing Down Statues and Monuments Is a Bad Idea

It seems like a harmless idea - even NOBLE.

People, driven by their individual sense of outrage against historical offenses, gather together, and tear down monuments/statues to former Confederate leaders.

I mean, the Confederacy LOST! So, why protect the heritage of a rebellious group?

It's not about them. It's not about keeping the statues up. It's not even about whether or not the monuments should be removed.

It's about a minority using their personal feelings - and, acting on them in a criminal way - to bypass public discussion (NOT screaming), legislation, and referendums, to remove the monuments.

We are a divided people. We are NOT joined by blood ties, a shared culture, or common religious traditions. But, we share the same framework - the Constitution - and the laws that have built on that.

If we substitute direct action by factions, we tear down that framework - and its protections. This is a dangerous road to travel. It's one that can - and I fear WILL - end in suspicion, fear, tribalism, and no more United States.

The argument that personal belief in the Rightness of a Cause should be used to guide public decisions was the basis of the call for Secession. They, too, believed in Their Cause.

In America, the tradition has always been that if you feel strongly about an issue, you have to persuade others to agree to support it, as well, in order to get legislation passed.

Not vandalism. Not criminal action.

Snopes thinks this is OK, because it wasn't the Official DC Vietnam Memorial. I don't.

Mr. Bond - They Have a Saying in Chicago

The 2nd time, in the same part of the world. The official story is that someone, or several someones, screwed up. This story seems to question that supposition.

The 1st time, a container ship hit the Fitzgerald. It was a Phillipine ship, who path (shown in the link), is highly suggestive of it NOT having been an accident. Now, that might have meant just carelessness, not deliberate.

However.

Remember what Goldfinger said.

“Mr Bond, they have a saying in Chicago: 'Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action'.”

Antifa vs. Alt-Right

Here's some information about the Antifa (Anti-Fascist) members you might find interesting. I'm NOT saying that the Alt-Right is OK, or without blame. Neither side covered themselves with glory in Charlottesville. The trouble is, BOTH sides think they were the put-upon one.

From what I could see (both in the TV news, and online videos), almost everyone in that situation made some bad choices.

• The Alt-Right - for deliberately provoking with their use, or accommodation of Nazi symbols, Supremacist chants, and confrontational attitudes. Perhaps, as they claim, all of the marchers weren't in those groups. But, by allying themselves with those who were, they undermined their position, and supported those fringe-element aims.
• The Antifa - for their use of violence in previous actions - throwing things, vandalizing, assaulting people. Their history made a tense situation even worse, as their opposition had some justification for feeling threatened. I especially disliked the use of facial coverings - if they believe that they are right, why are they afraid of letting their identity being known?
• UPDATE: Lord, as though there wasn't enough blood spilled already, some of the participants are organizing to do more damage.
• The city - they used poor judgement in refusing the permit, then, after allowing it at the location chosen, taking it back, and forcing the marchers to re-locate. They are also said to have ordered the police to do nothing in the face of violence.
• The police - they allowed the situation to escalate, then forced the marchers to pass close to the Antifa group. They should have kept them far apart. I don't care what the orders are - the role of the cops in the field is to make their own assessment, and act to prevent violence.

I do think, however, that - on both sides - they are PEOPLE. Not Evil Monsters. Not inhuman beasts to be attacked, disrespected, or killed. The proper Christian response to hate is to love (the person inside, not the sinful actions outside). Given the disrespect and levels of hostility between the groups, it isn't surprising that an unbalanced man took action that killed one person and injured others.

That's what happens when you demonize your opposition.

I've been thinking about the topic of how we - by that, I mean the people who are NOT screaming at each other in the streets - might do our part to reduce the level of suspicion, anger, and divisive behavior.

Confrontation is not working. Screaming at each other in the streets is not helping - in many ways, BOTH sides become more sure of their own position, and less inclined to listen to concerns from the other side.

Why is that important? We are all God's precious children - yes, even those that reject Him. Like any father, he is pained by his children's arguing and fighting. He does love both sides, even when they think harshly and act badly.

So, no, screaming, throwing things, and deliberately trying to provoke a violent reaction are not what we should be doing.

Somehow, we have got to love God enough to make the effort to love each other. To try to understand each other's fears and hurts. To WANT to find common ground, and begin to re-build a country torn by hate, fear, and very deep suspicion of each other.

The ones that think SOME people are beyond help, and need to be screamed at, scolded, hounded out of their jobs (the irony of this is HUGE - one of the BIG complaints of the Alt-Right is that, if they don't TOTALLY fall in line with Leftist thinking, they experience difficulty keeping their jobs), and - if they don't perform a PUBLIC mea culpa, complete with confession that they are worthless scum, banished from American life.

I get the feeling that only suicide, followed by tearing apart the corpse and scattering the pieces to the winds, will satisfy the Left. Maybe not even then.

Don't think people can change? Don't think transformation of spirit can be done? You might want to read a moving, and transformational story of hate turned to love.

And that isn't the only time we have come together in love.

Sarah Hoyt has the outsider's view of the whole thing (Yes, she is an American now, but she spent her youth in Europe, and has a different perspective on it).

The young people who want to see the statues taken from their public place should re-focus their goals, not on tearing them down (vandalism), or bullying others into going along with their removal, but on changing hearts, so their opponents will WANT to see them removed. You can FIGHT your opposition, or you can work to TRANSFORM them into your supporters.

BTW, if the Leftists don't watch it, they will BECOME their opposition - hatefilled, violent, and unwilling to leave the past behind.

Fans of the old show The Brady Bunch will get that reference.

I found a good list of questions to ask about the "Russian Influence on the 2016 Election" story - emphasis on the word STORY.

To me, # 5 is the most critical:

Precisely what meddling occurred? Somebody meeting with a Russian does not constitute proof of anything. rather, this is the classic witch-hunt accusation of the McCarthyite "Red Scare" of the 1950s--guilt by association: you were seen conversing with a Communist, thus you must also be a Communist--or at a minimum, you are tainted by association and thus under a cloud of suspicion that can never be cleared because no accusation of guilt in a court of law is ever made.

Guilt by association is insidious because it can't be cleared in court. Those accused of guilt by association are not innocent until proven guilty--they are guilty until proven innocent, a proof that can never satisfy the accusers.

A precisely defined chain of verifiable actions is required to prove meddling beyond reasonable doubt. So date, all the accusations have failed to meet this most fundamental standard of evidence of wrong-doing.

If Republicans/Conservatives are still being accused of 'McCarthyism' for any pointing out that someone is verifiably Socialist/Communist, then why are the Democrats/Progressives/Liberals/Leftists using that smear tactic to associate the Trump administration with the Russians?

If McCarthyism is the Ultimate Bad Thing, why are THEY doing it?

Why do people buy the argument that government actions are so much more efficient?

If FederalGovCo were to set out to bake you a nice apple pie, it would require 200 paper-pushers to oversee the job; it would take ten years for the FDA to approve the recipe; it would end up costing about 700 dollars; and it would be so disgusting as to be inedible. If your grandma—who had baked a million of the things, all of which were perfectly delicious—tried to come into the kitchen to help out, she would be jailed for not having the proper license. If you complained about the taste, your honesty would get you a serious denunciation for “hate speech” for hurting the feelings of the eighteen transgender lunatics involved in the process as mandated by law, despite the fact that not one of them had ever baked so much as a Swanson’s chicken pot pie in their entire lives.

Yeah, I Tend to Agree With This

You may have noticed fewer politically-oriented posts here over the last few months. That's because:

• I've been really busy with my paperwork related to my retirement - Social Security, Pension, Medicaid.
• I've been using the Scheduling Function of Blogger more often. Particularly when I'm busy, and my time online will not be predictable, it's been a blessing. Naturally, more time-sensitive posts - like most of those relating to politics - don't work well with that function.
• I'm trying to block out time for my novel revision.
• I'm focusing more on the novel, which is not overtly political, and the news on politics is distracting.
• I've lost that sense of - OMZ, what fresh Hell will that Leftist come up with now? True, Trump shoots his mouth off, and his Tweets can be off-the-cuff and over-the-top, but, it's still better than what preceded it.
• I have, finally, some confidence in the management of our nation's government, that it will generally act in reasonable ways, and in the average citizen's best interests.
• President Trump is not afraid to use muscle back at posturing nations. He does not convey the message, "Please, just don't HURT me! I'll do anything you want, just PROMISE me that you won't hurt me!" It seems to make them both more accommodating, and more will to stop that saber-rattling. Well, except for NK - but their leader is bat-shit crazy.

With that in mind, I read this from Ace of Spades, and thought it made sense.

How Progressives Mis-Understand The Working Class

I started thinking about that misunderstanding while reading this post.

The David Brooks article about the cultural divide between working class and upper class people really struck a chord with many, particularly those that, like I did, shifted between classes during my life.
