SUCH a Lot of Interesting Stories!

[UPDATE]

From Rotten Chestnuts:
By the way, did you know that the collective noun for a group of liberals is “shriek”?  A murder of crows, a shriek of liberals.
I've only recently returned to town after a prolonged vacation. When I first woke up, I had all kinds of ambition to straighten out the house and bills, and re-boot my life.

That was, until I went online - just to check ONE thing.

Hours later, I've found:
  • Some leads linking HRC to Russian spies, who she VERY conveniently hustled out of town before they could be interrogated.
  • An interesting "hobby" for Nellie Ohr, Fusion employee, wife of an Obama official - Ham Radio. Check out the license details here. I am a radio operator, and know that ascertaining whether an applicant is an undercover operative for the CIA (Nellie formerly worked for them) is not something that the FCC checks out. They're strictly concerned whether the operator knows the technical specifications and rules necessary to use a radio safely, and without interfering with other electromagnetic-based spectrums.
  • Our deacon mentioned this in the homily on Transfiguration Sunday. I only found mention of it on Jihad Watch. I've noticed that these atrocities are seldom mentioned on the news. I became interested in the issue after reading "Their Blood Cries Out" - outdated by now, as new horrors arise.
The Next Day: still not back to normal, but doing better. Sometimes, I think I just need to NOT be working. Now that I'm no longer employed outside the home, I have a hard time making the transition from working to chillin' - too often, I'm OD'ing on one or the other.

I was reading in LifeHacker about people who work from home, and one point many of them made is that those who work from home have to find a way to mark that transition from work to housework/errands to off for the day. Some suggested taking a quick walk around the block for a "commute". It's an intriguing idea, and I may try it.

Are you, like me, suspicious about the motivations of Democrats on the subject of school-located shootings? Selwyn Duke thinks the Dems are nervous about their chances in the 2018 elections - they should be!

Prying Dark Money Out of the Hands of Politicians & Activist Groups

What is "Dark Money"? Here's how one group used it to conceal donors, defeat Roy Moore, and bypass the rules about political contributions.
This story was originally published by The Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit, nonpartisan investigative news organization in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON — Democrats love decrying "dark money" — political contributions for which the source of funds is a mystery. But that isn't stopping them from accepting "dark money" themselves or making it difficult to determine the original underwriter of a political donation, as a recent Southern contest vividly illustrates.
Alabama's special U.S. Senate election in December is a case study in the lengths national Democrats, who this year are racing to win back Congress from Republicans, are willing to go to hide their cash in the name of political expediency.
Here's what happened: When it seemed as if Democrat Doug Jones could actually beat embattled Republican Roy Moore, a new super PAC supposedly based in Birmingham, Alabama, appeared just one month before Election Day. The super PAC, called Highway 31 after a route that bisects Alabama, spent $5.1 million to boost Jones, more than any other group active in the general election.
Alabama makes Jones win official as Moore's last-ditch challenge is denied 1:38C didn't disclose the identities of its bankrollers until a month after voters chose Jones as their senator. And when Highway 31 did disclose, most of its funders turned out to be organizations who in turn receive some of their funding from sources that are difficult, if not impossible, to comprehensively trace to flesh-and-blood humans.
That last part, about using credit to avoid disclosure before the election, is going to be more and more common.

One fairly easy way to force disclosure is to rule that no non-profit may give money to any organization that acts in any way to influence an election, and that any organization that passes along money from a previous organization for any activity that might have an impact on an election must pay DOUBLE or TRIPLE that money to the Federal Treasury. Repeat violations will result in that organization losing its non-profit status.

Helping Younger Liberals to Reach Their Own Conclusions

Have you ever found that, when you try to use facts and logic to help someone understand a cultural/political situation, you are:

  • Faced with resistance - they just question your facts, saying "WHERE did you hear that?" (the implication is that you had stumbled upon a quasi-Nazi/Alt-Right conspiracy site, and bought the nonsense, hook-line-and-sinker. When you take the time to find the source of your information, they don't even bother to look at it.
  • Unable to persuade them, as they lack much of the essential background - or, rather, they have such a skewed understanding of history that they just can't make that leap from where they are to where you are.
  • Hostile to any criticism of their "heroes" - Obama, the Clintons, Fauxcahontas, Bernie, Biden, Gore - NOTHING that is not completely complementary will be listened. My God, ELVIS fans aren't that fanatic!
  • Repeating Occupy Democrats memes, saying the most UN-scientific things whilst smugly asserting "Science! Science!" like a crazed AFLAC duck.
I've been planning for some time to address that gap between what they THINK is true, versus what RESEARCH will show to be true. I've decided to resurrect an old category, Conservative Self-Education. I've been re-reading some old books - Witness, Steyn's America books, several books on the McCarthy Era in light of the Venona revelations - and have decided to put some short excerpts here, along with links to the original sources. I'll be doing this on a time-available basis, so don't expect any regular updates.

Despite the News...

...most of America is in good shape.

I'm at my daughter's house in Cleveland. She lives right in the city, on the West Side (a very nice area called West Park). It's a major change from my house, which is located on an acre of land, and heavily wooded.

From her dining room (I'm supervising my granddaughter's homework), I can see the street traffic. The view from my front yard looks like this:

Yes, that is lawn furniture - no, when this photo was taken a few years ago, the snow was not something I anticipated.

In both places, Rock Hill, SC and Cleveland, OH, there is little violence or crime close to home. We pay a price for that. Housing is not cheap (on the other hand, not prohibitively expensive, as it is in CA or NY. Prices for quite nice homes are 1/4 to 1/3 as pricey.

The tough 'gangsta' life is more of a local phenomenon. It's largely confined to those sections of town that tolerate the indiscriminate use of alcohol/drugs, have - shall we say - relaxed attitudes to buying goods that have "fallen off a truck", and expect to get most of the household income from the government. In those homes, Black or White, the expectation is that you have to stick up for your own, that everyone is out to get you, and that all the people you meet are crooked.

In our home neighborhoods, there are far more single-parent families than there used to be, less church-going, and more of a willingness to overlook deviations from traditional morals. And, yet, for most families, the norm is to be largely self-supporting, quiet, and civilized.

A Long Day, Filled with Maintenance

I got up early, and dealt with paperwork and such for a short while.

Then, off to the dentist - turns out I have periodontal disease, necessitating an expensive procedure called Planing & Scaling. I needed a local anesthetic for that - fortunately, only on one side this time.

The process was not as painful as the bill. Sticker Shock!!!

Take that as a warning - get your teeth in shape BEFORE you retire, and, hopefully, while you have dental insurance.

Then home for a quick cup of soup.

Then, dropped off the car to have some touch-up to the paint. The auto shop was nice enough to drop me off at home.

I'll be doing more household maintenance for a while, then, off to pick up my car.

It's been a busy day, but I don't feel as though I accomplished much.

This is What a Coup Looks Like

No guns.

No armed men surrounding the President, forcing him to sign a resignation letter.

No declaration of intent in the open.

But, this.

Use of government agencies to put forth rumors, feed secret information - verified or not - to compliant media stooges.

Refusal to comply with the boss's orders. Refusal to comply with the LAW.

Collusion with non-governmental allies, to try to remove all associated with, and loyal to, the President.

I just never thought I'd see it in the United States of America.

The Drum Major Speech

MLK's speech was referenced in the Super Bowl ads. It's a good one - see it here.

But, in addition to civil rights, it talks about some of the forces keeping BOTH White and Black people from having the kind of life they would find fulfilling. And, those forces weren't all governmental or societal.

Some of them were personal.

I'm enclosing a screen shot of someone responding to the ad.

Lies of the Left
