Setting Up my Old HP Laptop as a Linux Machine

My sister is a long-time Linux user, as was my late brother. Neither of them had used either Windows or any other software in a LONG time. I'm poly-OS - CPM, DOS, Windows, Apple, Novell, Unix, and Linux. Have mostly used Windows and Apple products for some time, although my SBitX radio is Raspberry Pi based. But, I knew that laptops could be temperamental about Linux Installs. So, once I had received my new HP laptop, meant for my business (which does use a fair amount of dedicated apps necessitating Windows/Apple OS), I decided to turn my underpowered HP into a true Linux machine. I headed over to her house, and we proceeded to give 'er a go. NOT entirely easy. First, we had to gather the data about the machine's specs, IDs, and other hardware info. Once we did that, we had to create the bootable USB in Windows. Mary not only had forgotten a lot about Windows operations, but my machine had neither a touchscreen nor a mouse. It was driving her nutso, so I offered to handle ...

I've Been Busy for a Long Time

Image
When I was talking to my sister yesterday, she noted that it had been some time since I posted here. That was due to an ungodly heavy set of life issues and responsibility. Every morning, I appreciate the invigorating Nature of the Magic Bean more. Doesn't just add energy, it adds mental clarity. I rehabbed my new knee very quickly; the second replacement responded fast. I'm still working on strength and ability to cover long distances without hitting the wall, but results are much better than last time, and overall pain is insignificant.  Dr. Hardy did an amazing job! Much of the spring and early summer was taken up by long neglected tasks, running around helping others handle mini-emergencies, and preparing for the annual Medicare recertification. Important, but time consuming. By mid-summer, my own health issues, and my husband's, were paramount. His were eye and managing chronic conditions.  I was going to appointments, as he sometimes needed a driver. For my, I was dra...

Alive, But Definitely NOT Kicking!

I'm 10 days out from my knee surgery. It's generally been a easier recovery than the first.  I decided to use the skilled nursing rehab option. My husband is still building up hand strength from his wrist surgery, and wasn't really up to the task. The acute pain is gone. I developed a sharp pain near my hip while Reaching for something. Still very painful, so I'm icing it. I should be home in a week or so - maybe sooner.

I'm Dragging

Image
I had a tiring day yesterday - an exhausting medical test, involving much heavy breathing, and holding my breath to the point of lightheadedness and nearly passing out. It was necessary as prep for my upcoming knee replacement. Yes, with 2 repaired knees, I will be bionic, but I don't yearn for $6M capabilities. I'll settle for fully mobile. And today is the day we will be finalizing our taxes. My husband is taking the last of the paperwork to our preparer. I left everything too late this year, so have to hustle - and I really don't feel up to the task. That's how I feel about my financial records. AND the house. I'm going to take a nap.

What - and Who - is Behind the Protests

Actual Communist Countries. China. A Chinese resident, who is still an American citizen, Neville Roy Singham. Singham is one of those tech multimillionaires. He uses his wealth to fund revolutions in the USA, including his wife's causes (Code Pink and others). A Sri Lankan by heritage, Singham was born in the USA. He is for "Human Rights" in America. Not for any kind of anti-government action in the Communist Paradise of Mainland China, where he lives. The repressive oligarchy that runs China is NOT to be criticized. He is doing his work against America, and her values, with the eager assistance of one of our mortal enemies. This is NOT an organic manifestation of American protest, but a planned psyop by a foreign country.

Which is More Important - IQ or Character?

I come down on the side of Character, just about every time. Steve Bannon interviewed Jeffrey Epstein at length, an excerpt is available  here . Steve's summing up of Epstein? "Brilliant". I don't believe anyone with common sense would call Trump brilliant. Good in business? Sure (Even in his bankruptcies, Trump came out solvent. He may have lost some money - the paper value might drop, but he was able to readjust and rebound.). Good at getting his way in negotiations? Absolutely. But Brilliant? No. That's true of many successful people.  That may not be the most important quality ensuring success. From Dennis Prager: " People tend to be preoccupied with intelligence. But intelligence leads nowhere if you don't have common sense and clarity. In short, “brains” aren’t that important. Almost everyone is intelligent enough to handle life well." I've been saying that for years. With my students, those with character - the ability to resist easy solut...

It's Nearing the End Game

Fortunately, Trump does understand games - very well, in fact. What am I talking about? This. It is NOT just about MN - most of us really don't care much about it's governance, considering the Progressive/Leftist history of that state, and the fact that Minnesotans did NOTHING to stop them before this point. No, it's about losing a state, ending ANY enforcement of federal rules/laws, and opening the Leftists to embedding themselves into county and local government. Once that's accomplished, we have NO ability to keep aliens from perverting the election process, representation in Congress, and stopping payments from the federal benefits to aliens. It would be Game Over. Just waiting for the final call of Checkmate. Powerline says it best: " If/when the insurgents succeed in driving out the feds, they will next turn their attention to state and local authorities. To be clear, the goal of the insurgents is not protecting illegal aliens from deportation. The goal is th...

Maybe THAT'S Why the Pretti Photo Was Altered

Image
The BBC (The BEEB? - truly, the End Times have arrived, when even THEY are willing to commit actual journalism!) has verified the video of Alex Pretti spitting on ICE officers, yelling, and kicking the ICE vehicle with sufficient force to damage the taillight. And, replacing that taillight will not be cheap - it can reach around $400 - $800. So, the idea that Pretti was just wandering around the attacks on ICE, minding his own business, and just HAPPENING to intervene, strictly out of humanitarianism, is completely horse hockey pucks. Now, an odd aspect of this whole media frenzy is that there is another picture of Pretti that is circulating among the protester network and the media (but, I repeat myself). The original photo was released by his employee union, showing him in his nursing scrubs (2nd photo) The altered picture is not just cosmetically changed, with a darker skin, but considerably altered - face length, nose length and shape, jaw angle altered, etc (1st photo). Why? It is...

Reflections on Almost 25 Years

...since 9/11. Europe, of course, is further down the line into Complete Takeover by Islamomanics. Mark Steyn has a retrospective, and sad obervations, on the current EU fate. There are a few bright spots Steyn hasn't mentioned. After many years of almost complete control, and dedication to enslaving the masses, Iran is facing serious opposition, by the people. No, not those psuedo freedom fighters on the Left, actual ordinary Iranians/Persians. The telling sign that they MAY win? Money and gold are heading out the back door at terminal velocity. Argentina is economically stable - which, given the natural resources and hard working populace, they SHOULD be - thanks to what you might call a Leftist Austerity Policy. Milei has taken a hatchet to the embedded Leftist bureaucracy, cut most of their programs, and reaped the rewards. Israel is holding on, despite a sizable community of homegrown Leftists fighting them every inch of the way. Israel is lucky Trump likes them. The surgical...

The CRAZY Grows

I'm just going to post some random examples: From Ace of Spades, another one of the crazy-eyed performative women . Note, as usual, she spews venom with those eyes doing their cray-cray thing, seemingly incapable of not dropping the F-bomb MANY times, and using those pinched fingers (what is WITH that?). The antics of the ICE protesters continue to endanger residents, ICE officers, and honest journalists. Consider some of these suggestions (I particularly like the one that has the red dye option). In ADDITION to the suggestion to focus on the Red states first, look to non-confrontational methods.  Check ALL federal benefit recipients for fake SS #s. Many of them will be here illegally. Remove ALL benefits from them. Force the states to pick up the cost.  Cross-check those SS numbers issued by Biden to illegal aliens. If they are receiving EBT, Medicaid, MEDICARE, Marketplace Plan  subsidies, housing subsidies, or SSI, block payments. Again, throw the cost and the re...

A Question to ask at All Encounters with Legislators

Who do you represent? Were you elected by CITIZENS, or aliens? A representative of "The People" should respond that the CITIZENS  of The United States are their PRIMARY concern. Not aliens*. Not other countries, however close their ties, whether that country is where they or their parents were born, other countries whose citizens share a religion with them, or countries the USA may have treaties with. OUR CITIZENS come FIRST. Other country's citizens/subjects take a far distant second place to the interests of our countries CITIZENS. By that standard, it's clear that NO alien, however protected from immediate deportation, or granted residency, can have their needs put ahead of CITIZENS. Further, taking money from CITIZENS to benefit aliens is improper. It is even more pernicious when the aid is disguised by misleading language, or embedded in 'comprehensive bills. If the legislator(s) believe aiding aliens is so just, they need to make their case with a SEPARATE...

My OTHER Site on Substack

I started my Substack site after Blogger hiccuped, and made updates difficult for a while. I thought it would be useful to have an alternative, should one site go down. I know many writers with multiple sites that mirror their posts. Both sites are duplicates. That always sounded like a lot of extra work. Instead, when I remember, I download my archive, and otherwise post different things on each site. Here is a link to my Substack.

Distrust of Those Not Like Us

When I was growing up, our families, teachers, and community leaders worked very hard to both introduce us to other cultures, but also to promote the idea that, at heart, foreigners were very much like us. We were encouraged to focus on the similarities, not the differences. Later on, I had friends who married someone raised in different cultures. Sometimes, the marriages worked out well. Often, those were marriages where the cultural blending was relatively easy: Both were White Europeans, but from different language groups They shared the same religion, perhaps different denominations They both came from the same economic/social background They met in college, and shared many experiences Sometimes, one partner made major adjustments, taking up an unfamiliar language or culture, sometimes converting to another religion. Who they had been became subsumed into another identity. Sometimes, they were successful in casting off their old identity. Often, over time, that person found th...

This is HUGE!

It definitely signals that election law issues CAN be taken to the courts .  It seems as though the Supreme Court Has gotten fed up with the open scuttling of fairly counted elections. And, the decision is 7-2. What are the odds on the dissenters being Sotomayor and Jackson? Just checked - I was right .

Some Lessons That Have to be Learned

Not "Leared". Learned. What lessons are those? Back in the day, as Official Old People used to say, the cops clearing out crowds of people acting out in public MIGHT have used 'rubber bullets'. Those would be projectiles designed to be less than lethal, but delivering a nasty bruise/painful injury that would also deliver the message - Do NOT Mess with Us. Those intended-to-be-less-than-lethal means have LONG been discarded. ANY crowd with a significant number of people who are non-compliant when ordered to leave must face the reality that the LEAST awful 'persuasion technique' will likely be nightsticks/batons or tasers. The idea of non-violent protest was accelerated in the late 1950s and early 1960s, by those in the Civil Rights movements. The idea that, should the police be seen, on camera/film, delivering physical blows to people standing/sitting/lying down, non-compliant, but not presenting a threat, the news media would amplify both the protest and the C...

An Old Dilemma

Are the Unborn Persons? Just who qualifies as a Person, someone whose existence deserves our protection, This discussion is older than the 250-year United States. It's older than Western Civilization. It's older than all recorded history. What it comes down to is whether there are any living entities that aren't entitled to live their life without an early death to benefit another. We have selected some organisms for elimination: Germs hazardous to humans or those organisms they prefer (such as our pets or animals we breed for food). Or those bacteria/viruses that put essential foods we depend on to survive at risk. Moving up the Organism Ladder, humans of groups that have shown their intent to kill 'our group', whether through direct war or other war equivalent actions, such as chemical or biological attacks. Or political oppression, and laws enacted to kill us, or leave us enslaved. They may be distinguished by a different national identity. They may be of a diffe...

Things I Learned Today

Image
Whose oil economy runs the world political agenda. BTW, if you haven't checked the news lately, USA forces took Manduro out of office. The left is belly aching about the USA having taken Mexico to our country to face narcoterrorism charges. They are repeating that we didn't ask Congress to declare war formally. I got a clue for those Jack wagons - Maduro, who is NOT the president of Venezuela by the voting results, didn't declare war, either. My Rule: If they don't officially declare war before attacking, invading, or committing violent crimes on us, we don't have to go through those motions for some prissy little academic with a stick up his a$$. Got it? Good!

Connecting the Dots

The headlines of many of the first reports state that the cause of this fire - on a former Catholic Church in Amsterdam - MIGHT be accidental. This one goes as far as to say it is suspicious.  It MIGHT have been random fireworks gone astray, that caused the church to burn to the ground. To back up that hypothesis, the first five paragraphs avoid including important information about the crowds in the vicinity. It takes Tommy Robinson to state the obvious: " Another iconic European church burned to the ground overnight, this time in Amsterdam. The Vondelkerk, which sits just next to the Dutch capital's famous Vondelpark, was destroyed as invader gangs ran wild with fireworks. Had enough of them yet? Mass deportations 2026." It's the New Hate Crime - observing the evidence, and stating a reasonable conclusion, based on the evidence.

For the First Time, Her Selection Makes Some Sense

Image
Did Tim Walz get the VP nod because he could be counted upon to direct Somali money to the Presidential campaign? That's the speculation here. In other news of government overreach designed to benefit politicians, their families, and their financial donors/owners, here is the x.com link for a thread discussing the pros and cons of a NYC law that limits OWNER'S rights to their own properties. Communism - The Slow Way. There are many news items I could fulminate over right now, but I choose to spend the last hours of our calendar year focusing on the Good Things in Life. No, not THAT! This. How could we not dwell on the good things today. Tomorrow is for summing up the year. Today is for rejoicing. Have a Happy New Year.

The BAD Part About "Free" Buses

I just looked at my old posts. I'd thought I had written about this before, but could not find any posts about this topic. Why is Mamdani's proposal for 'free buses' such a concern? It's because once riders no longer have to pay for their travel, crime will increase. Huh? How? The entry cost to cruising around with other misunderstood Yoots, looking for opportunities to 'culturally enrich' unsuspecting citizens, has just hit ZERO. So, there is no reason not to use their free time looking for opportunities to score goods/cash, introduce young ladies/gents to the blessings of non-consensual sex with ALL the guys, and pick up some quick cash 'peacefully protesting' while also practicing their vandalizing skillset. Win-Win. There will be NO cost to hanging around, looking for trouble. And, best of all, with the ENTIRE city within reach - for FREE - the Yoots can target the Rich Neighborhoods. Ya' think the AWFULs will STILL vote for the Commie and th...
