I really wanted to put this issue to rest for a while, but the connections just keep popping up. This is a full treatment of the corrupt and biased Holder DoJ. I had a hard time not blowing my top when I read about Dobinsky, a lawyer who used her position as a party to confidential information - and whose job it was to make sure that it did not improperly get out and prejudice the jury pool - to use that access to smear the defendants and work to get them convicted. But - that's Holder-town, Jake. Every other Justice Department lawyer who blogged about their New Orleans case has been fired, except Dobinski. This case, along with so many others, stinks of corrupt and unlawful actions. The DoJ needs to be reformed, from top to bottom. This academic paper on cousin marriage is fascinating. One major feature of Islamic culture, even in non-Arabic countries, is the high degree of cousin marriages. The natural outgrowth of that familial interdependency is autocratic government, laws without teeth, and government by favor, rather than right. That's not compatible with the American value of government by rules and laws. That framework does, it is true, sometimes leave individuals with little recourse against harmful government actions - or lack of action. However, the alternative, in which pressure groups are the only way to direct an outcome also disadvantages some. There is no perfect government. There are no perfect people. All are flawed. However, government by rule and law has a MAJOR advantage - it is codified and predictable, thus giving a roadmap for action. Share

I am NOT focused this week - the detritus of my changing life is leaving me with MANY loose ends, which I am trying to deal with, but - usually - only tossing into a box, with a tepid promise to deal with it later (when, presumably, I will have more time and focus). Today's National Review post by Seth Forman is an eye-opener. After an historic election result that occurred, in part, due to the desire of White voters to put race behind them, the nation is more racially divided than ever. even though the 2010 census reveals that residential segregation for blacks is at its  lowest  level ever (the average black lives in a community that is 54 percent nonblack), blacks remain the most politically segregated group. There is indeed no greater predictor of voting patterns than being black — not income, not education level, not marriage status, not age, not religious affiliation, not party affiliation, not profession. Once the voter is known to be black, it can be estimated with roughly 90 percent confidence that he will pull the lever for a Democrat. Because of copyright issues, I can't quote directly, but he talks about how a process (legislation) that was once the exclusive property of The Professionals, is now anybody's game. Don't underestimate the meaning of this victory - all who played a part in defeating the Shamnesty bill take deservedly take a bow. By writing about it, contacting legislators, and making a major fuss, we stopped it. WE did. That, people, is the essence of what it means to be a Nation of Citizens. From the National Review's Robert Rector: Consider two foreigners who were here on temporary visas that expired in December 2006. One of these individuals lawfully returned home upon expiration of his visa; the other chose to remain in the U.S. unlawfully. Under S. 1348, which of these individuals will be granted the privileges and benefits of citizenship? Answer: the one who broke our laws. Meanwhile the individual who respected our laws and returned home will remain abroad and will have little chance for citizenship. Is this fair? Of all the people in the world who wish to come to America, why should we feel compelled to grant citizenship to a group whose sole qualification is that they broke our laws? I personally know some of these individuals who came legally, and I oppose disrespecting them, in favor of someone who shows no respect for the law. It just isn't fair. Hugh Hewitt has an outstanding idea! He was a part of the bloggers who interviewed leadership candidates for the Republican House Conference. He asked 4 of them the same question: I had asked three other congress-people the following: What books have you read about Islamic terrorism against America and the West? None of the three were able to name a single book. Boehner followed suit, saying that he had read books on the subject but that he couldn’t give me any names. Assume they're not blowing smoke - i.e., just SAYING that they had, of course, read several books on the subject (and how likely is that - when you read something on a subject, you generally remember the author's name, or part of the title, or the book cover picture), what does that say for their retention of information?
