Status of the Political Races

I've been following the unfolding political process, and have concluded:
This is likely to be an interesting year for watching politics
About 40 races around the country, both Congressional and Gubernatorial, are in the competitive category.  The outcome may well determine how the leadership of the Senate and House changes, or stays the same.

Spratt, of SC, is one of them.  The York region, District 5, is one of the few in SC that are reliably Democratic.  Spratt has served for many years, without serious opposition.

This year, he faces a tough race against Mick Mulvaney, a state Senator.  Why is that so crucial?

Spratt is the chair of the House Budget Committee.  If he leaves, whether the leadership of the House changes, it will be a new ball game.
